“Sotirios was very patient with our daughter to teach her AP Physics C (3rd year of physics). They discussed limits first. In particular they saw some examples of limits and the technical definition of limits as introduced by Cauchy. They examined infinite and finite limits for the function, limits at infinity or in finite points for the limit variable and saw the differences and logic in the definitions. They also saw how limits can be used to define derivatives. As a result they calculated a few derivatives using these methods that also exposed us to how to take limits. In a brief discussion about calculus in general they also saw the concept of integrals using the idea behind Riemann sums. In a follow up part 2 supplementary discussion they also covered some applications of these ideas i.e. the chain rule method to take the derivatives of composition of functions. To illustrate all these methods we worked on some Physics related kinematics problems that used derivatives. They studied examples from circular motion and derived all kinematic variables like velocity and acceleration from the position as function of time. They also talked about the general curved motion in 2 dimensions using the concepts of tangential and centripetal acceleration and solved related problems.”
